How to Know You Have Wildlife

Early detection is the key to fast, cost-effective elimination. Here's what to look for:

  • Heavy thumping, scratching, or chittering sounds in attic or walls
  • Torn soffit, damaged fascia, or displaced roof vents (wildlife entry points)
  • Visible droppings in attic, near entry points, or around the property
  • Animal odours in confined spaces — particularly skunk musk
  • Paw prints in garden beds, garbage disruption, or pet food disturbance

Species Found in Ontario Homes

Raccoons (Procyon lotor)

Most common attic intruder in Ontario. Highly intelligent — can open latches and tear shingles. Females den in February–May for birthing. Carry rabies and roundworm (Baylisascaris).

Grey Squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis)

Chew through wood, drywall, and electrical wiring to enter attics. Active year-round. Can create multiple entry points in a short time.

Skunks (Mephitis mephitis)

Burrow under decks, sheds, and porches. Spray is a major irritant and health hazard. Carriers of rabies. Require careful, experienced handling.

Starlings & Sparrows

Nest in vents, soffits, and chimney caps. Block ventilation causing moisture and fire risks. Nesting season: April–August.

Groundhogs (Marmota monax)

Burrow under foundations, sheds, and retaining walls. Extensive tunnel systems can undermine structural integrity. Active May–October.

How We Eliminate Wildlife

A science-based, 4-step approach that treats the root cause — not just the symptoms.

1

Inspection + Entry Point Assessment

We inspect the full exterior for wildlife entry points, evidence of activity, and damage. We identify the species, whether young may be present, and the safest removal approach.

2

Humane Trapping or One-Way Door

We use humane trapping or one-way exclusion doors appropriate to the species. Animals are never harmed. If young are present (birthing season), we adjust the timing to avoid separation.

3

Entry Point Sealing

After removal is confirmed, we seal all entry and potential entry points with professional-grade galvanized steel mesh, flashing, and hardware cloth. This is the most important step — without it, new animals move in within weeks.

4

Attic Assessment + Cleanup (Optional)

We can assess damage to insulation and structural elements, and arrange professional cleanup of contaminated insulation and droppings. Heavily contaminated areas should be remediated for health safety.

Wildlife Control — FAQ

Is wildlife removal included in the ELITE plan?

Yes — wildlife removal (valued at $1,200/yr) is included in our ELITE monthly plan at no additional charge. The ELITE plan covers all insects, mice, carpenter ants, mosquito control, and full wildlife removal.

Is it legal to remove raccoons yourself in Ontario?

Ontario law allows homeowners to live-trap raccoons but requires them to be released within 1km of the capture site (they'll return). Relocating more than 1km requires a licence. We hold the proper licences to handle, transport, and release wildlife legally.

There might be baby animals in my attic. What happens?

Baby animals require special handling — we cannot simply remove a mother during birthing season (typically Feb–May) without also safely reuniting families. We assess whether young are present and choose the appropriate approach. We never abandon young animals.

How do raccoons keep getting in?

Raccoons are incredibly strong and intelligent. They identify soft soffits, loose shingles, and plumbing stack flashings and tear them open. Without professionally sealing all entry points with rigid materials (not foam or caulk), they'll return within weeks.

Can I get rid of a skunk under my deck?

We strongly recommend professional handling. Skunks are rabies vectors and will spray when frightened — the odour permeates wood and soil and is extremely difficult to remove. We trap humanely and seal the access point with a dig-resistant barrier.

How long does wildlife removal take?

For trapping scenarios: typically 3–7 days for the animal to enter the trap, followed by immediate removal and same-day sealing. One-way door exclusions: 3–5 days to confirm all animals have exited, then we remove the door and seal permanently.
