Two years of carpenter ants in a brand-new addition

A newly built addition with a carpenter ant problem that had already absorbed hundreds of dollars and several companies. Treating the nest, not the trail, ended it.

The situation

Carpenter ants kept appearing in a recently built addition — the worst place for them, because new framing with any moisture is exactly what a satellite colony wants.

What had been tried

Over two years the owners had used several different companies and spent, in their words, hundreds upon hundreds of dollars. Each treatment knocked down the ants they could see; none found where the colony actually was.

What we found

Carpenter ants seen indoors are usually foragers from a nest you can’t see. We followed the trails and moisture signs to the nesting area rather than treating the surfaces the ants crossed.

What we did

Targeted the nest and its satellites, treated the structure where the colony was travelling, and set up follow-up visits so new activity would be caught early instead of after another season of damage. Carpenter ants are covered on Protect Plus, which visits every two months for exactly this reason.

Result

The first visible, lasting result in two years, and a plan to keep it that way.

“Over the last two years, we have tried many different companies … This was the first time that we saw results”
